$1 Coin Story

Have you heard about this before?

Just wanted to share this with all. Are you aware that the one dollar coin looks like a octagonal? Quick, take out a one dollar coin now..

One said:
Reverend Hong was an expert at feng shui and after taking lots of readings he said that the proposed constellation of MRTs tunnels and the huge amount of metal being driven deep into the Singapore bed rock would sever Singapore's Dragon Vein which is bad, bad, bad for the nation. Reverend Hong then offered the following advice: "If you want to continue with project, then u must give every Singaporean household - Indian, Malay, Eurasian, Christian, Buddhist, Muslim - every single one of them a Chinese Ba Gua. Or else Singapore will sink."

Oh no, there would definitely be racial riots. And how could Lee force every household to have a 'Ba Gua' at home?

Said the wise Lee - I have an idea. I know how to make EVERYBODY like to have as many 'Ba Gua' as possible and so, our one-dollar coin was born. That's why must have Ba Gua to withhold it.

What a story behind right?

But then, the economy didn't do quite as well as expected after the circulation of the one-dollar coin. Remember the '85/86 recession?

So the Reverend Hong was consulted again. He said that whilst the one-dollar coin did symbolise the Ba Gua, it was of no use if everyone had it in his pocket and failed to display it.

So wise Lee came out a novel idea again, and the Road Tax Label was born. It's Octagonal and it is displayed in every car. Maybe now, you think this explains the many years of booming economy Singapore had been experiencing.

However, with the recent turmoil in the region and now that the Reverend Hong is no longer around, what shall we do next?

Everyday, I have been keeping all the one dollar coin. In fact, babe and I have a competition - first to fill up the bottle wins a good meal from the other party.
I got to buck up ! ^^

The Cuff Road Project!

Just 2 days ago, walking back from train station to babe’s place. Along the way, a short distance away, I saw 4 migrant workers sitting by the stairs and 1 migrant worker sitting opposite each other. I quickly turned to babe and said don’t walk the stairs!

I believe many of us, just like me actually turn our back as far as possible when we saw migrants workers congregate at a point each time, and believe that they are zooming their eyes on you! Right?..

Look at them!
They are all migrant workers with minor injuries and agent duped them by not engaging them to work! Do you know that most domestic workers are at present paid between $300 and $400 a month?

They work and get paid, they dun work and they get NOTHING.

The pay of a worker with no day off and a salary of $350 therefore work out at $11.67 a day. Long hours for like 15 hour a day and this would mean a worker being paid 78 cents an hour.

They have to work at least 4 hours a day to buy a proper meal!

Article from a NewsNation forum

Mr Elamurugan Chellan lost all 10 toes on both feet to melioidosis, also known as soil disease. After contracting the disease while working here as a construction worker in November 2006, the 28-year-old Indian national suffered multiple organ failure.
Mr Elamurugan job involved digging trenches 3m to 5m deep for cables to be laid in the ground and that’s how he contacted such disease.

He said in Tamil: 'We all wore long-sleeved tops, long pants and rubber boots for work. But from time to time, muddy water would still seep into our boots.'

The doctor told him the toes had become gangrenous and could not be operated on.

Then came the shock. His toes would most likely 'auto amputate', or drop off on their own, in the next six months. Which means, within 6 months, he toes will drop off on it own!!

Can you imagine it?
EACH time one of his toes dropped off, he would cry as he wrapped it in paper before throwing it away.

Can you imagine that your toes dropped off and you have to wrap it and dump into the rubbish bin? Can you imagine without toes, he could not keep his balance and had to use a walking aid supplied by the hospital to get around.

Now, since March 2008 - The Cuff Road Project has provided 100,000 meals to thousands of men. Currently serving 450 meals a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner are available at four participating restaurants. Where each meal costs only $2!

Food cannot substitute wages, but the men are comforted by the food!

To sustain the destitute workers until the end of the year, S$70,000 is need for The Cuff Road Project to carry on.
Will you give them a hand by donating an insignificant amount of $2 to them?

They pave the road for us, they worked under the scorching sun and wet raining days. $2 is seriously, indeed and honestly nothing to us but to them is a meal.

It’s time to do something..

Let us give them a little warmth!..

A flash of my shoes!

Doing a slight renovation outside of my house this week, adding porch in the backyard, changing shoes cabinet and so on!

Mom say the shoes cabinet will be smaller and no places to store all my shoes. Maid dumped all my shoes in a big box and ask me to clear last sunday, I have 41 pairs of shoes inclusive of 6 flip flop chucked in the shoes cabinet. Threw away 18 pairs of shoes last night! Officially heart-aching max. *pout
This is officially my favourite sandal from novo! Can't bear to throw away despite it has already spoiled. =(

My room is filled with shoes as well! Feel a bit too much, spending so much money on fashion apparels and accessories.

I need to say ‘STOP’ to my shopping felony! Ha-ha. It’s time to save money, more money for my Europe trip next year. YUP!

Jetted SQ 380 to Hong Kong!

Back from hong kong! It wasn’t a fantastic trip though.

Raining season plus two mischievous kids ever tagged along! The kids caused me enormously headache ever, I swear. I will never ever bring the two of them again, especially when they are together! Gosh.

First time to hong kong was kinda disappointed, put aside the kids but I feel the people over there was kinda rude as well. Walked along the street with no mass crowd and someone can actually sway her hand to hit me and my bracelet broke into half! Mainland PRC spiting all around, talked loudly in the MTR. Unlike taiwan, so much different!

Jetted SQ A380 to hong kong and stayed at tsim sha tsui – holiday inn. Flight and hotel are okays, very accessible to anywhere as well. MTR just 2 minute walk away.

First day:
Woke up at 6.15am as mama is like a kanchong spider, thought that we need to reach airport by 7am whereas we suppose to leave home at 7.15am. Well, changi airport is just 15 minutes away from my place! Settled in hotel about 2.30pm, and everyone is so tired after the journey and lazy to head out! Walked around hotel area and there goes my first day plan to ‘wong ta xian temple’. Headed out with babe at 8ish while everyone settled and rest in the hotel room, managed to satisfied my cravings for all the nice and dirty food at the road side stalls. Walked along ladies’ street and manage to get all souvenirs done on the first day since we are only there for 4 days.
Babe and mom actually throw the kids to me and leave to macau on the next day. Was waiting for sis to reach hong kong on the following evening, suppose to bring the kids to the avenue of stars and head back to hotel, but while walking down from the jetty – it started to rain!

Brought the kids to the nearby shopping centre and sogo to walk around instead, sinful act! Helped angel to buy a longchamp bag and ended up bought a longchamp bag too. Quite like this design as compared to the normal kind of longchamp. Haa. No more red though. Woot.
It was raining for the last 2 days and even we are in Disneyland. It certainly not a good trip though but still, manage to catch up a lot with mom and sis ever since the last vacation few years back while sis is still studying in Australia and my stay over in Australia.!

Companions is all matters though! More trip please!.. Like babe says: Get passport chopped almost every month. Wahahaa.

That’s all for my whining . Just a few picca, way too lazy to upload. Nights.
